Thursday evenings are our informal group run; great for beginners and more experienced runners. Those new to running are joined by a run leader and act as the back of the group. Runners who are more experienced can run as fast as they’d like and have the opportunity to run further using scheduled loop points. When a loop point is reached, runners are encouraged to turn around and run to the back of the group to meet up with those at the back. This enables everyone to run together whilst allowing the opportunity to run faster and further for those who want to. It’s a great opportunity to chat to people at all levels throughout the run.
We run for between 4 and 5 miles, starting from The Pagoda Roundabout Island, next to the Birmingham LGBT Centre, B1 1EQ or at the snakes and Ladders cafe next to the LGBT centre. (There are currently no shower facilities available)
Thursday runs are ideal for all abilities and everyone is welcome!
On the Summer Run we explore the canals of Birmingham over a pre-determined route. You’ll be amazed at what you will find and it can feel like you’re worlds away from the busy city centre.
On a typical run, we’ll leave the Snakes and ladders cafe and run around the edge of the Village, turning right onto Sherlock Street. We cross over the ring road and head down Pershore Road. At the junction for Edgbaston Cricket Ground, we turn right and head back towards the city on Bristol Road. When we get back to the ring road, we turn left and head up the hill toward Five Ways. Once we reach Bath Row.
However, occasionally we might run a bit further or on a different route – after all, variety is the spice of life! We try and avoid as many roads as possible, but our routes still have traffic on them, so please bear this in mind. During the winter months, please try and wear high-vis clothing so you can be seen!
There are changing facilities available at The Birmingham LGBT Centre with bag storage but no shower facilities.
